The Implementation Engine

The TECSA Think Tank serves as the dedicated research, policy, and strategy division of the Township and Rural Economic Commission. Our primary mission is to transform township and rural economies by utilizing evidence-based research, practical policy engagement, and actionable development frameworks. We bridge the gap between high-level strategy and real-world economic activity, ensuring that development initiatives translate into measurable participation for local communities.
Our mandate involves a deep analysis of township and rural economic systems to identify structural barriers that hinder SME growth and market access. By developing sector-based transformation models, we provide government bodies, corporates, and development financ institutions with the insights necessary to implement effective change.

This work is closely aligned with the African Union Agenda 2063, South Africa’s National Development Plan, and various rural revitalisation strategies. We focus on critical areas such as industrialisation, agro-processing, and the economic inclusion of youth and women to ensure no one is left behind in the transition from the informal to the formal economy.
